It’s always a sad day when a venue closes.
Aviv was, is, and will always be a staple of the Brooklyn DIY community. The closure of Aviv brings back sickening feelings and memories of the closure of great venues, like Death By Audio, Glasslands, 285 Kent, and most recently, Palisades.
We’re survivors and we’ll make it work, one way or another. The Aviv Crew are looking to reopen somewhere else, hopefully by 2017. Keep a lookout for updates.
‘Nuages’ (meaning ‘Clouds’ in English) was made during the Nazi occupation of Paris. Django’s friends and family were being sent to concentration camps because of their gypsy roots. He meant for this song to be relaxing, almost like an escape from the real world and into the Paris of his youth…
