From Flemington, New Jersey, Thee Creeps are back with a fast, rough, head-pounding banger. Ironically titled Grave Pop, it’ll wake up the dead. This beauty is getting released today via King Pizza Records.
First song on this record, ‘Sweaty Angel’ will catch you off guard. In the first 2 seconds, there’s some light, fast strumming, giving you no time to prepare yourself for the garage punk onslaught. A frenzy of pounding guitars and lyrics screamed by Big Mack Kernan. It’s like a trance that just makes you want to get on the dance floor and start moshing. Next up, ‘Personal Frankenstein’ – a memorable, catchy riff is repeated throughout the verses. Jumpy, melodic, and fun, and perhaps, something a wallflower like me can dance to.
Whoo! ‘I Can’t Wait/Proud to be a NYC Hippie,’ get some of that NY pride. “I’m proud to be a NY Hippie / I’m proud of dirty feet and dirty hair / I’m proud to be swimming with cockroaches / I’m proud to be living without a care” – just gives me warm feeling inside. NYC is dirty and industrial and 100% beautiful, let’s keep it like that. This song makes me imagine waking up at noon, rolling out of bed, taking a few shots, smoke a cigarette, walk to a show, and start screaming my lungs out into a microphone – life can be grand sometimes. NYC garage-fuzz punks, I think we found you a theme song.
Thee Creeps is Mack Kernan (lead vocals, guitar), Jason Moody (guitar), Matt Schuckert (bass), and Chris Taylor (drums, backing vocals).
