He went out late for a six pack of beer five years ago and never returned. Now he’s back home, sleeping with mom again, and still really fucking mad. To be honest, I don’t know if I can ever forgive him for leaving us for so long. Sure, we got occasional checks in the mail but I had to raise Baby Susie by myself. I was forced to grow up quickly and be the man of the house. I’m tough now because of it and nothing, absolutely nothing, can stand in my way (sniff sniff).
…… Okay, a little much but it had to happen.
Dad is the Bushwick-based hardcore and thrash punk band who just released their latest single ‘Party at Mike’s’ via Greedy Dilettante Records. Ever since I saw them live at our kick-off event back in January, I was hooked. Their fiery performance, their distorted and thrashy sound, their lack of giving a fuck: everything about them, really, sparked my interest.
That’s no different with ‘Party at Mike’s.’ Their latest single is a crunchy, unforgiving thrasher that’ll send your best day into the angry and disappointed state it was destined to be in. The guitar and bass chugs are immense and the hardcore drum beats will bring your blood to a boil. It’s a blueprint to all the other Brooklyn bands out there right now showing how to do punk right in 2017.
The song honestly makes me jealous I’ve never been to Mike’s. Apparently, everyone brings six packs of beers and they’ve got air conditioning. That’s all I need to have a good time. According to lead singer James Watson, Mike is so dope he screams on the chorus “I don’t want to party with anybody else.”
My theory is that Dad left the family to live with Mike. I think they’ve been secret lovers this whole time. Now that Dad’s back, though, I can’t help but hope that he’ll never leave again.
