With ‘Arrested Development’ off their upcoming album Adjusted II, The Black Black are back, grinding away at Brooklyn with a pounding track that eschews conventional structure for dark and crunchy post-punk grooves that carry us away. We’re in their world now and we’re getting our ass kicked.
‘Arrested Development,’ as it’s name suggests, seems to capture the feeling of when things come to a grinding halt. Steady rhythmic pounding carries us from one vibe to the next as The Black Black move steadily and deliberately. “So let’s enjoy it,” singer and guitarist Jonathan Daily reminds us. Sometimes, isn’t that all we can do? It’s the kind of the track that would probably sound best in a dark DIY venue after a long week where nothing seems to go right and the best you can do is get lost in loud and drown in heavy.
Though this single appears to capture feelings of frustration and stagnation, that’s hardly the case for The Black Black, dropping their second release within about six months on March 28th via Money Fire Records, one of Brooklyn’s best names in punk, noise and heavy rock. Adjusted II looks to be a very exciting follow up to the hard-hitting but short Adjusted I. Adjusted II is looking to carry on the spirit of it’s predecessor and it’s easy to see that the band’s development is anything but arrested.
